Alicia Silverstone Returns as Cher Horowitz in New Clueless Series at Paramount+

Paramount+ ordered a series that reunites Silverstone with her iconic role 30 years after the original film, with production set to begin in Los Angeles.

Alicia Silverstone is officially returning as Cher Horowitz. Paramount+ gave a series order to a Clueless sequel show that picks up 30 years after the 1995 film, with Silverstone reprising her role as the Beverly Hills icon who now finds herself navigating the challenges of raising a teenage daughter.

The series will film in Los Angeles. Production details beyond the location have not been announced.

According to the logline, beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz has figured out a lot. She's successful in business and has mastered motherhood, that is, until her daughter's high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel clueless all over again.

From Peacock to Paramount+

The project had a complicated journey to series. Peacock originally had the show in development back in April 2025, but the NBCUniversal streamer dropped it just months later.

CBS Studios was developing the project in collaboration with Universal Television when Peacock passed. Universal Television exited the project after Peacock did, and CBS Studios shopped the series around to other platforms.

That search led to Paramount+, which picked up the show and gave it a series greenlight. The move means the Clueless sequel is staying within the Paramount family, as the original 1995 film came from Paramount Pictures.

Jane Wiseman, Paramount+ head of originals, said Clueless is coming home. Thirty one years ago, Alicia Silverstone's Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make Clueless a box office hit and instant pop culture classic.

Wiseman added that Paramount+ is especially proud to be filming the much anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city's exceptional talent and crews.

Who's Making the Show

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are writing and executive producing the series via their Fake Empire banner. Jordan Weiss also serves as writer and executive producer.

Silverstone will executive produce in addition to starring. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original film, is on board as an executive producer, as is original film producer Robert Lawrence.

That creative team brings together the people who made the 1995 film work with showrunners known for teen and young adult series. Schwartz and Savage previously created Gossip Girl and The O.C.

Paramount+ Builds Its Slate

The Clueless series marks the latest addition to the Paramount+ slate under its new executive team led by Wiseman and Paramount Direct to Consumer Chief Cindy Holland.

The streamer has greenlit originals including Laird, starring Kenneth Branagh, limited series Fear Not starring Anne Hathaway, 9/12 starring Jeremy Strong, and Discretion starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning. The platform also gave renewals for Dutton Ranch and The Madison, both produced by Taylor Sheridan.

No premiere date has been announced for the Clueless series. With the show just receiving its series order and production not yet underway in Los Angeles, the earliest viewers could see the show would likely be sometime in 2027.
