Marvel Releases First Trailer for Avengers: Doomsday
The long awaited first trailer teases a multiverse war, the return of some of our favorite heroes, and the MCU debut of Doctor Doom ahead of the film's December release.
Marvel Studios has officially released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, giving fans their first real look at the highly anticipated crossover event that will bring together heroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe and beyond.
While Marvel has been slowly revealing casting announcements over the past two years, this is the first time fans have been able to see many of those characters in action together. The trailer teases a massive multiverse conflict that appears to span multiple realities, with Doctor Doom positioned at the center of the chaos.
Robert Downey Jr. makes his first on-screen appearance as Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom. Marvel first revealed the actor's return during San Diego Comic Con in 2024, where the announcement quickly became one of the convention's biggest moments. Now, fans are finally getting their first look at Downey stepping into the role of one of Marvel's most iconic villains.
The trailer also features appearances from the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts (aka the New Avengers), and several familiar faces from Fox's X-Men films, continuing Marvel's push toward an even larger multiverse story ahead of Avengers: Secret Wars.
Another character who immediately caught many fans' attention was Loki.
Tom Hiddleston only appears briefly, but it was easily one of my favorite moments in the entire trailer. After the emotional ending of Loki Season 2, where he sacrificed everything to hold the multiverse together, seeing him return raises plenty of questions. Is he still protecting the timelines from afar, or will he finally reunite with Earth's Mightiest Heroes? Marvel keeps those answers hidden for now, but as a longtime Loki fan, I was excited to see him back on screen, even if it was only for a few seconds.
The trailer also gives fans another glimpse of Chris Evans, whose return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was previously confirmed by multiple outlets. While his casting is no longer a mystery, Marvel continues to keep his role under wraps. Whether he is returning as Steve Rogers, portraying a Variant from another universe, or playing an entirely different character remains one of the film's biggest unanswered questions.
Visually, Avengers: Doomsday looks every bit as massive as fans were hoping for. The trailer is filled with large-scale battles, emotional character moments, and several shots that hint at the collapse of the multiverse. Marvel avoids revealing major plot details, but it is clear the stakes will be among the highest the studio has ever explored.
The Russo Brothers return to direct the film after leading both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, adding even more anticipation for what could become another defining chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Personally, I think Marvel handled this first trailer almost perfectly. It gave fans enough footage to build excitement without revealing too much of the story, and I honestly prefer that over trailers that spoil half the movie. Between Loki's appearance, Doctor Doom's first footage, and the mystery surrounding Chris Evans' role, there is still plenty left to speculate about before the film arrives in theaters.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026.
