The doors to Hotel Transylvania are officially opening once again.

The announcement marks the franchise's return to the big screen for the first time since Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation in 2018. While Hotel Transylvania: Transformania debuted exclusively on Prime Video in 2022 after pandemic related release changes, the fifth film will once again receive a theatrical release.

This time, Dracula is stepping back.

According to Sony, Drac has happily retired, leaving the legendary monster hotel in the hands of his daughter, Mavis. But when a series of mysterious and frightening events begins haunting the resort, Mavis and the rest of the Drac Pack must work together to uncover what's really lurking inside Hotel Transylvania.

The official synopsis hints that this will become the franchise's "most spellbinding adventure yet," shifting the spotlight toward Mavis while still keeping Dracula and the familiar monster family at the heart of the story.

The film will be directed by Jennifer Kluska and Alan Hawkins, with Lawrence Jonas serving as producer. Franchise creator Genndy Tartakovsky returns as an executive producer alongside longtime producer Michelle Murdocca, helping ensure the series stays true to the style and humor that made it a worldwide hit.

Casting announcements have been kept mostly under wraps.

So far, Keegan Michael Key is the only confirmed returning cast member, reprising his role as Murray the Mummy after taking over the character beginning with the fourth film. Sony has not yet confirmed whether Brian Hull will once again voice Dracula or if additional cast members from previous films will return.

Since debuting in 2012, the Hotel Transylvania franchise has become one of Sony Pictures Animation's biggest successes.

Across four films, the series has earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide, introducing audiences to a humorous world where classic movie monsters live together at Dracula's luxury hotel. The franchise has also expanded into television series, books, video games, and theme park attractions around the world.

The newly released first image offers fans an early look at the next chapter, showing Dracula, Mavis, Johnny, Dennis, and several familiar monster friends preparing for another supernatural adventure. While Sony has not released a trailer yet, the artwork confirms the spooky atmosphere hinted at by the film's title.

With The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania, Sony appears to be leaning even further into the franchise's spooky roots while keeping the family friendly humor that has made the series popular for more than a decade.

Fans won't have to wait too much longer to check back into the hotel.
