New Japanese Trailer for Resident Evil Movie Shows Fresh Footage and Mysterious Creature
The latest trailer for Zach Cregger's reboot includes new scenes of a corpse rising on tendrils and protagonist Bryan navigating a crumbling building, ahead of the film's September 18th theatrical release.
Sony Pictures released a new Japanese trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil film today. The short video includes glimpses of previously unseen footage, including what appears to be a new zombie variant or creature that lifts a corpse from the ground using tendrils.
The new footage appears sixteen seconds into the trailer. Tendrils emerge from the face of a corpse before lifting the entire body off the ground. The brief shot suggests either a new take on zombie transformations or a completely different creature, though the trailer doesn't clarify which.
Despite being short and recycling some material from the first and second international trailers, the Japanese version manages to sneak in these new shots. It's the kind of reveal that raises more questions than it answers, which is exactly what a good horror trailer should do.
New Look at the Film's Setting
The trailer also includes a quick glimpse of protagonist Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, making his way across the narrow remains of a high floor in an extremely dilapidated building. That shot appears at the 23 second mark and gives a better sense of just how destroyed the film's environment is.
The crumbling building setting reinforces the survival horror atmosphere the film seems to be going for. Narrow walkways in decaying structures create natural tension, and it's a smart visual choice for translating the claustrophobic feeling of the games to the big screen.
