Savi's Workshop just got a major glow up. Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios rolled out a refreshed Protection and Defense hilt theme on October 5, and every lightsaber built in the workshop now comes with new effects, no matter which hilt you pick.

The new look is available right now at both parks. If you have been waiting for a reason to build a saber on Batuu, this is a pretty great one.

A White and Gold Hilt With High Republic Roots

The updated Protection and Defense theme pairs bright white finishes with rich gold detailing. Ancient Jedi iconography is worked into the design, and it is meant to feel mysterious.

The whole idea draws on the optimism and grandeur of the High Republic era. It honors the Jedi who devoted themselves to protecting others, and it nods to a time when the Order stood as a symbol of peace and hope across the galaxy.

This is only the second hilt theme to get a third generation upgrade. Power and Control was the first, back in May 2026.

Every Saber Gets New Tricks

The upgrades go well beyond one hilt. The chassis and blade of every lightsaber now include a thermal cutting effect, deflection effects and a spinning effect.

Audio quality is better too, and the blade activates more smoothly. All of it is meant to make swinging your new saber feel more immersive.

Then there is the color change effect. Pair your saber with a special cracked Kyber crystal, and a quick flick of the wrist shifts the blade from blue to red. It is a fun way to show off the inner battle between the light side and the dark side of the Force.

Reclaimed and Reforged Is Still Around, For Now

If you like your lightsabers a little rougher around the edges, there is also a limited time hilt theme called Reclaimed and Reforged. The story behind it is that the remains of ancient battles, crashed ships and other scrap can be found all over the galaxy. To most people it looks like junk, but to a resourceful Jedi it might be the key to a new saber.

Guests build their lightsabers from scraps scavenged in the Outer Rim that made their way to Batuu. Put together, those pieces become something brand new, yet still tied to the mysteries of the past.

Since Reclaimed and Reforged is only around for a limited time, it is worth grabbing while you can. Four other themes stay available year round inside the workshop.

How the Experience Works

Your story starts outside the workshop, where you meet one of Savi's Gatherers and choose from the available hilt themes. Inside, you assemble your hilt from parts provided based on your theme and your cloisonné pin.

Once the hilt is done and any unused parts go back into Savi's inventory, it is time to connect it to a blade. The Kyber crystal you choose decides whether the blade ignites red, blue, green or violet. Will you follow the Jedi, or harness the dark side like the Sith? That one is up to you.

Before You Go

Buying a lightsaber is required to take part in the experience. Savi's Workshop is popular, so advance reservations are strongly encouraged at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

The upgraded sabers are on sale now on Batuu at both resorts. Already built a saber in the past? The new effects might be reason enough to head back and make another.
