Haunted Mansion Closes at Disneyland for Annual Transformation to Haunted Mansion Holiday
The classic dark ride shut down on August 8th to make way for its Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, which returns on August 21st for both Halloween Time and the holiday season.
Haunted Mansion closed at Disneyland today for its annual transformation into Haunted Mansion Holiday. The seasonal overlay brings Jack Skellington and other characters from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas into the attraction for both Halloween Time and the winter holiday season.
The closure marks the beginning of a two week refurbishment period that happens every year. When the attraction reopens on August 21st, guests will find the beloved New Orleans Square dark ride completely reimagined with Nightmare Before Christmas theming throughout.
Haunted Mansion Holiday has become one of the most popular attractions during Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort. The overlay traditionally draws big crowds from the moment it opens through the end of the calendar year.
What Happens During the Transformation
The annual closure allows Disneyland's team to completely redress the attraction for the holiday overlay. Jack Skellington takes over the mansion as guests journey through scenes that blend the spooky charm of the original Haunted Mansion with the aesthetic of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
One of the biggest highlights each year is the new gingerbread house that appears in the ballroom scene. The massive edible creation changes annually and has become something fans look forward to seeing when the overlay returns.
Extended Season Through the Holidays
Unlike some seasonal overlays that only run for a specific event, Haunted Mansion Holiday sticks around for months. The attraction will remain in its Nightmare Before Christmas form through Halloween Time and then continue operating through the Holidays at The Happiest Place on Earth.
That means guests will be able to experience the overlay through the rest of 2026. The extended run gives both Halloween fans and holiday visitors a chance to ride the seasonal version before it eventually transforms back into the classic Haunted Mansion in early 2027.
