KILLceañera Facade Revealed at Universal Studios Hollywood Ahead of Halloween Horror Nights

The walls have come down around one of Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood’s most interesting original houses, revealing the burned remains of Lola’s childhood home ahead of KILLceañera: Music by SLASH.

One of the Halloween Horror Nights facades we’ve been watching for months is finally out from behind construction walls.

Universal Studios Hollywood has revealed the facade for KILLceañera: Music by SLASH, the new original haunted house coming to Halloween Horror Nights 2026. Located near Mel’s Diner, the structure has slowly taken shape throughout the summer, but now that we know the full story behind the house, many of the details we’ve been seeing finally make sense.

The facade represents the burned remains of the childhood home of Lola, the main character behind KILLceañera.

Halloween Horror Nights Creative Director John Murdy shared Lola’s story during the HHN panel at Midsummer Scream, along with quite a bit of information about how the house came together. Interestingly, KILLceañera isn’t a completely new idea. Murdy originally developed the concept back in 2018, but it never became part of that year’s event. The idea sat on the shelf for years before eventually being revived for 2026.

Lola’s story begins when she is five years old. Her family home catches fire on November 2 during Día de los Muertos, which is also her birthday. Her parents die in the fire, while Lola survives with severe burns that leave her disfigured.

As she gets older, Lola is bullied by other children because of her appearance. She eventually becomes fascinated with the frightening stories her parents once told her about ghosts, monsters and supernatural creatures, and those stories become an important part of what happens when she reaches her fifteenth birthday.

Instead of having a normal quinceañera, Lola invites the people who tormented her to a celebration of her own. They become her Court of Dishonor, and Lola summons the creatures from the stories she grew up hearing to help carry out her revenge.

The story incorporates 15 candles, with each representing one of Lola’s victims. We also know that El Cucuy, the boogeyman of Latin American folklore, will be among the creatures appearing inside the house.

With that backstory in mind, the newly revealed facade becomes much more than an entrance to the maze. Guests are actually walking back into the location where Lola’s story began.

The structure has been designed as the damaged remains of her family home, including a balcony overlooking the entrance. Murdy revealed during Midsummer Scream that Lola will appear above guests from that balcony as they enter, meaning the character will be introduced before guests even make it completely inside the house.

KILLceañera will also take inspiration from actual quinceañera traditions, although HHN is naturally twisting them to fit Lola’s story. Murdy discussed researching elements such as the Court of Honor, the grand entrance, tiara and scepter, fifteen candles, the last doll, changing of the shoes, birthday cake and other parts of the celebration.

Rather than simply using those elements as decorations, the house is expected to weave them into different parts of Lola’s revenge. That should help give KILLceañera its own identity instead of feeling like a traditional monster maze with quinceañera theming placed on top of it.

Then there’s the other major part of the experience: SLASH.

The Guns N’ Roses guitarist is once again collaborating with Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood to create music for the house. Murdy explained at Midsummer Scream that after last year’s event, SLASH expressed interest in working together again. Murdy remembered the unused KILLceañera concept and sent it over.

SLASH eventually created music featuring Spanish guitar, but the collaboration grew beyond simply providing a score for the maze. The team developed an original song called “15 Candles,” which will actually be performed by Lola as part of the experience.

According to Murdy, this will be the first time an original character inside an HHN haunted house performs an original song created specifically for the attraction.

Lola’s design was even developed with the performance in mind. Instead of relying on a restrictive mask, the character uses prosthetics that allow the performer to lip sync the song. Her appearance combines the burn scars from her childhood with Calavera inspired makeup and UV elements that should become especially noticeable under the house’s lighting.

There are still plenty of things Universal hasn’t revealed about the actual walkthrough, but we now have a good idea of what guests are stepping into. The experience begins at Lola’s burned childhood home before taking guests through her twisted fifteenth birthday celebration, where the people who bullied her become victims and the monsters from her childhood stories are brought to life.

After months of seeing this structure slowly grow next to Mel’s Diner, having the walls removed gives us our best look yet at how closely Universal is tying the physical house to Lola’s backstory.

KILLceañera is also one of the more interesting original concepts in Hollywood’s lineup this year because it isn’t relying on an existing movie or television franchise. Lola, her history, the creatures, the music and the entire celebration were created specifically for Halloween Horror Nights.

We’ll finally get to step inside when Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood begins September 3, 2026.
