Universal Kids Resort Responds to Guest Feedback, Says More Shade Is Coming

After opening in the Texas summer heat, Universal says it plans to add more landscaping and shade throughout the park.

Universal Kids Resort has only been open for a little over a week, but the park is already making changes based on guest feedback.

Following its July 1 opening in Frisco, Texas, many guests praised the park's family friendly attractions and immersive themed lands while also pointing out one major concern. Much of the park offers limited shade, making it difficult to escape the intense Texas summer heat.

After hearing those concerns, Universal confirmed that additional shade is on the way.

In a statement shared with WFAA, Universal said it is continuing to improve the guest experience and plans to add more landscaping and shade elements throughout the resort.

"We are always listening to guest feedback and will continue enhancing the park experience over time, adding landscaping and additional shade elements throughout the resort. Universal Kids Resort features a variety of offerings including outdoor attractions and indoor experiences, as well as multiple splash pads and play areas, restaurants, shows and merchandise locations."

The announcement comes as temperatures in North Texas continue reaching around 100 degrees, leading many visitors to search for places to cool off during their visit.

Universal Kids Resort was specifically designed for families with young children and features seven themed lands inspired by some of Universal's most popular franchises. Guests can explore areas based on Shrek, Puss in Boots, Jurassic World, SpongeBob SquarePants, Minions, Trolls, and Gabby's Dollhouse while also staying at the resort's 300 room on site hotel.

Although the park includes several indoor attractions, restaurants, splash pads, and water play areas, much of the walkways between attractions remain exposed to direct sunlight. The issue quickly became one of the most common topics discussed by guests after the park opened.

Universal did not provide a timeline for when the additional shade will be installed or explain exactly what the new additions will include. The company simply said the improvements will be introduced over time as it continues refining the new park based on guest experiences.

It is not unusual for theme parks to evolve after opening. Landscaping continues to mature naturally, while operators often add benches, shade structures, trees, and other guest comfort improvements after seeing how visitors move through the park during its first months of operation.

For now, Universal recommends that guests take advantage of the park's indoor experiences, restaurants, splash areas, and other air conditioned locations while visiting during the hottest parts of the day. Staying hydrated, wearing sunscreen, and taking regular breaks are also important when visiting in extreme summer temperatures.

Universal Kids Resort opened on July 1 as Universal Destinations and Experiences' first theme park designed specifically for families with young children. The company says guest feedback will continue helping shape the park as it grows.
