Universal Studios Japan Reveals Licker Popcorn Bucket for Resident Evil 30th Anniversary at Halloween Horror Nights
The wearable bucket features the iconic creature from Resident Evil 2, with a hinged brain that opens to reveal miso flavored popcorn inside.
Universal Studios Japan announced its first Resident Evil popcorn bucket today, and it's a wearable Licker figure that straps to your back like a harness. The creature's head opens on a hinge to access the popcorn inside, and the bucket goes on sale September 9 filled with miso flavored popcorn.
This is the first time Universal Studios Japan has produced a Resident Evil popcorn bucket, despite running attractions based on the Capcom franchise multiple times in previous years. The Licker bucket arrives as part of dual celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil series and the 15th anniversary of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Japan.
The bucket will be available at the Stage 22 Popcorn Cart. Universal has not announced pricing yet, and the company noted that designs, sale locations, and release dates are subject to change without notice.
The Design and How It Works
The bucket recreates the Licker down to its exposed brain, long protruding tongue, and clawed limbs. Instead of a traditional bucket or shoulder bag, this one functions as a chest harness that lets guests wear the creature on their back and keep both hands free.
The head opens to reveal the popcorn stored inside. Universal specifically called out that the claws and teeth are made from soft materials, which matters given how sharp the sculpt looks from a distance.
The Licker first appeared in Resident Evil 2 and is equipped with a freakishly long tongue. It's become one of the most recognizable creatures in the Resident Evil universe and a fan favorite over the years.
Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive
The bucket ties into Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive, the new haunted house debuting at Halloween Horror Nights this year. The attraction runs at Stage 18 from September 11 through December 27, 2026.
Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive is an R15 experience where guests are relentlessly pursued by hideous creatures that will make you want to cover your eyes, with unpredictable attacks coming from the ceiling, from your feet, from all directions, according to Universal's description.
The story follows FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who has disappeared while investigating mysterious deaths at the Wrenwood Hotel, an abandoned location at the outskirts of Raccoon City. Guests search for her among zombies, starting in the back alleys of the hotel before moving inside where monsters attack from all angles. The climactic action features Grace and Leon S. Kennedy.
Other Resident Evil Merchandise
The Licker bucket is not the only Resident Evil merchandise arriving at Universal Studios Japan. The park will also sell Raccoon Police Department themed shirts and bags that let guests cosplay as Raccoon City police officers.
Those items will be available for purchase at the Cinema 4D Store starting September 9. All the new Resident Evil merchandise launches the same day, two days before the haunted house opens.
Halloween Horror Nights 15th Anniversary
This year marks the 15th anniversary of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Japan. The event will also include the park's first R18 rated house, which requires guests to sign a waiver before entering. Some lucky guests will get to experience Halloween Horror Nights overnight.
So far, this release is exclusive to Universal Studios Japan. Universal has not announced whether the Licker bucket or any Resident Evil merchandise is headed to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando or Universal Studios Hollywood.
Both US locations already have full lineups for their own events this fall. Universal Studios Hollywood's seven house lineup includes Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Stranger Things, Sinners, Evil Dead, Hellraiser, Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness, and Dead Deader Deadest. Universal Orlando features Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow as this year's theme, with haunted houses including the first ever Hellraiser house, the final Stranger Things haunted house, and a Downtown Clowntown house featuring Killer Klowns from Outer Space alongside Art the Clown.
