Stay & Scream lets resort guests enter the park early by staying inside Universal Studios Florida after it closes for the day. Scream Early gives Annual Passholders and select ticket holders 30 minutes of early access before the event officially begins. Stay & Scream is available exclusively to guests staying at Universal Orlando Resort hotels. If you're at the park during the day and have a valid Halloween Horror Nights ticket, you can remain inside Universal Studios Florida after it closes to daytime guests instead of leaving and coming back later.

About an hour before the event officially starts, team members direct Stay & Scream participants to designated holding areas throughout the park. These holding pens are strategically located near haunted houses, so when HHN officially begins, you're already positioned close to an attraction entrance. While you wait, you'll be surrounded by other resort guests doing the same thing, all trying to figure out which house to hit first.

The big advantage here is location. Instead of entering through the front gate with thousands of other people, you're already inside the park and steps away from a house. When the event starts, you can walk straight to a nearby haunted house while general admission guests are still making their way in from the entrance plaza.

Stay & Scream doesn't give you extra time. You're not experiencing houses before the event begins. But starting your night deeper in the park instead of at the front gates gives you a head start that can easily translate to one or two extra houses over the course of the evening, especially on busy nights when lines build quickly.

How Scream Early Works

Scream Early is Universal's other early entry option, available to Annual Passholders and guests who purchase specific ticket packages that include the benefit. Unlike Stay & Scream, Scream Early grants actual early admission to the event, allowing participants to enter 30 minutes before the official start time.

If Halloween Horror Nights officially begins at 6:30 PM on a given night, Scream Early participants can enter at 6:00 PM. That half hour might not sound like much, but it's enough time to complete one full haunted house and get in line for a second before general admission guests arrive.

During Scream Early, only select haunted houses are open. Universal rotates which houses are available for early entry throughout the season, so the houses you can access during your visit might be different from the ones open during Scream Early on another night. This rotation helps manage crowd flow and ensures that no single house is constantly slammed at the beginning of every event night.

The strategy for Scream Early is straightforward. Enter as early as possible, head directly to one of the open houses, experience it with minimal wait, then immediately get in line for another. By the time general admission starts, you've already knocked out at least one or two houses and you're positioned well for your second or third.

Which Early Entry Option Is Better?

Both programs offer real advantages, but they're designed for different types of guests. Stay & Scream works best if you're already planning to spend the day at Universal Studios Florida and you're staying at an on-site hotel. You don't have to leave the park and return, which saves time and energy. You also get to choose your holding area based on which house you want to prioritize, giving you some control over your starting position.

Scream Early is better if you want guaranteed early access and you're not necessarily spending the full day in the parks. Annual Passholders who live locally or guests who want to arrive fresh for the event will appreciate the ability to show up 30 minutes early and immediately start experiencing houses. The actual early admission time gives you a measurable advantage over Stay & Scream, which only offers a better starting position.

You get true early entry, and you're not spending an hour standing in a holding pen waiting for the event to begin. Lines that were five or ten minutes during early entry can jump to 45 minutes or more within the first hour.
