Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel Is Now Closed for a Top to Bottom Refurbishment, With No Reopening Date
The resort's Victorian flagship hotel, open since the park's first day in 2005, closed completely on October 12. Here's what we know about the work, what's affected and where to stay instead.

Hong Kong Disneyland's grandest hotel has gone dark. The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, the resort's Victorian style flagship, closed in its entirety on Monday, October 12, 2026, for what Disney calls comprehensive enhancements to its facilities, services and overall guest experience.
Disney hasn't announced a reopening date. The hotel's own page simply says it's temporarily closed, and reservations haven't been available from October 12 on.
How we got here
The closure didn't come out of nowhere. Renovation work started in June 2026 on the west side of the building, running every day from 11am to 4pm while the hotel stayed open. Guests staying during that stretch were told to expect construction noise and some blocked views from rooms on that side.
In late July, word came that the entire hotel would close in the fall so the work could go much further than a wing by wing refresh. Disney describes it as a top to bottom refurbishment, and said future stays will combine themed storytelling with new design.
That's an unusual move for a Disney resort. Full hotel closures are rare, and the most recent comparable examples are both at Disneyland Paris, where the Disneyland Hotel and Disney Hotel New York each shut completely for long, complete overhauls before reopening with new themes.

How long will it take?
Officially, nobody knows yet. Unofficially, cast members have suggested the hotel will stay closed into sometime in 2027, but that hasn't been confirmed by Disney, so treat it as a rumor until the resort shares a date.
For perspective, the Paris examples took a long time. The Disneyland Hotel in Paris didn't reopen until January 2024, after a refurbishment that started in 2021, and Disney Hotel New York closed in 2019 and reopened in 2021 as the Art of Marvel. A full refurbishment of a 400 room hotel could easily run a year or more.
The hotel itself
The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel opened with the park on September 12, 2005. It's a Victorian style resort on reclaimed land along the waterfront, with 400 rooms and a convention center with ballrooms and meeting space. Like the rest of the resort, it was built following feng shui principles.
If it looks familiar, there's a reason. The design draws on Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa at Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Hotel at Disneyland Paris, right down to the big white facade and red roofs. Inside, the six story lobby is known for live music, and it looks out over a hedge maze in the gardens toward the bay.

Rooms ranged from Standard and Deluxe rooms to Sea View rooms, some with balconies looking out over the water, plus a Kingdom Club executive level with its own perks and a set of suites at the top of the range. For a lot of families, it was the splurge stay of a Hong Kong trip, the one with the view, the grand lobby and the character breakfast downstairs.

What's closed along with it
Because the whole building is shut, everything inside it is closed too. That includes three restaurants: Crystal Lotus, the flower themed Chinese restaurant known for dim sum and dishes from Sichuan, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong; Enchanted Garden, the buffet where kids can dine with Disney characters; and Walt's Cafe.

The hotel's Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique location, the club level rooms and suites and the gardens are all part of the closure as well. If you had a meal booked at Crystal Lotus or Enchanted Garden, it won't be happening during the refurbishment.
If you already had a trip planned around these dates, the resort stopped taking reservations for stays from October 12 on, so most new bookings will already be at the other hotels. If you booked through a travel agent or a package, check with them directly to make sure your stay was moved to one of the hotels that's still open.
Where to stay instead
Hong Kong Disneyland's other two hotels stay fully open, so you can still sleep on site.
Disney's Hollywood Hotel opened alongside the Disneyland Hotel in 2005 and is the budget friendly option, themed to classic Hollywood with bright colors and a playful style. It's the easiest pick for families who want to stay on site without paying flagship prices.

Disney Explorers Lodge, which opened in 2017, is the resort's newest and largest hotel, themed to explorers' journeys around the world, with gardens and lounges inspired by Asia, Oceania, Africa and South America. With the flagship closed, it becomes the resort's top end option for now.
Getting around doesn't change much either way. The resort has its own rail link, the Disneyland Resort Line, which runs from Sunny Bay station on the MTR to the park's front gate, and the hotels are linked to the park by free shuttle buses.

What this means for a Hong Kong trip
The park itself isn't affected. Hong Kong Disneyland keeps running as usual, including World of Frozen, which opened in November 2023 and is still a big draw for international visitors.

With one hotel offline, rooms at the other two could fill faster on weekends and holiday periods, especially around Christmas and Chinese New Year. If you're planning a stay, book early, and compare the on site hotels with the off site options in Tung Chung and the airport area, which are a short ride away.
What to watch for
The big questions are when the hotel reopens and how different it will be. Disney's description, themed storytelling with innovative design, leaves room for anything from a careful restoration to a new theme like the Paris hotels got. We'll update this story when Hong Kong Disneyland shares a reopening date or a first look at the new design.
